Alpha Course: Starting Wednesday, 4th November 6.30-8.00pm. This is particularly aimed at people who are curious or wanting to explore faith. Perhaps you know someone in your family, or a friend or colleague, who is searching for meaning and hope in life, this is for them. Please take courage and invite them, and offer to accompany them. Alpha involves a very warm welcome, some light refreshments, watching a short video (about 20 minutes) which then leads to a time of discussion, sharing and, in time, some wonderful friendships. People do not need to have any faith at all, or may have been brought up with the faith and are seeking to rekindle it, or you may be one of those Catholics who comes to Mass and just feels that you need a re-boot with your faith. The course explores questions around discovering meaning in life, the experience of suffering, who Christ is and what difference He makes, what God's plans are for each of us. The course will take place in St Begh's School (Candlestick Room). It would be helpful to know numbers; please email or telephone the parish office to register.

Thank you to all those who helped at the Church Workday this weekend and those who helped to host the Sethera Band Concert last weekend.

Opportunity to get to know your new priests: Fr Philip will share a bit of his testimony and his recent visit to the missions in Honduras on Tuesday, 13th October, at 6.30pm in St Begh's school.

Young Adults' Group 18-35: Next meeting will be this Wednesday, 14th October, at 7.30pm in the priory, an opportunity for young people to explore Pope Leo's reflections on Artificial Intelligence and tech. Relaxed and enjoyable discussion with pizza, all young people welcome.

Parish Celebration: Saturday, 31st October, at 5.30pm in the Parish Social Centre. Fr Philip's installation as a Canon took place in the Cathedral, but the service was a short event and a long way to go, so we'll have our own celebration at the end of the month. The new date for this coincides with Halloween (but please don't worry you are not expected to get dressed up as a pumpkin), but we will have a parish celebration of All Saints, and everyone can bring something to make a shared meal. It's an opportunity too for people to bring something from their own region or country, a Meal of All Nations, everyone is welcome. Tea and Coffee will be provided and the bar will be open.

Pilgrimage to the Holy Land: 19th – 26th April 2027, with Fr Philip, and pilgrims from across West Cumbria, an opportunity to walk in the footsteps of the Lord as pilgrims of peace, visiting Bethlehem, Nazareth, the newly opened site of Jesus's baptism, Galilee and Jerusalem, together with the ancient Nabatean city of Petra in Jordan. Booking forms and registration on www.jcjourneys.com/jhc-holyland

Thinking of becoming a priest? A day of discernment for single men, 16 or over, at Lancaster Cathedral on Saturday 31 October 10am-3.30pm, please email heather.watts@lrcd.org.uk if you would like to go, and everyone else, please continue to pray for vocations (there are prayer cards at the back of church).

An appeal: The Bishop has also suggested that we erect a permanent sign outside St Begh's Church in thanksgiving for three centuries of service and mission offered to the parish and to West Cumbria by Benedictine monks. A quote for a granite St Benedict cross from A reputable local stone mason is around the £5K mark. You can donate by placing it into an envelope marked 'cross fund' or speak to one of the priests or parish secretary.

Weekly Collection: We received £1,448.17 last week. Thank you also for your generous donations to CAFOD, which raised £298.00.

Seven Day Lamps will be lit this week for the following intentions:

Sacred Heart: (1) Pasquale Giordano (2) Antonella Mattera (Giordano)

Our Lady: (1) Marie & Gino Giordano (2) Michael & Jocelyn Coan (3) Harry, Mary, Catherine & Martin Fisher
