Sea Sunday: Seafarers play a vital role in our lives, but they often work in difficult and hazardous conditions. Sea Sunday is on 12th July. It is when the Church prays for all those who live and work at sea. Your support in our second collection this weekend will make a big difference to seafarers in need. You can also donate by visiting www.stellamaris.org.uk/donate, or by texting ‘SEA’ to 70460 to donate £5. The collection this weekend is vital to enable Stella Maris to continue its important work, so please give generously Your kindness brings hope, faith and support.
Welcome back to Fr Alex Kenyon OSB who will be celebrating this weekend's Masses. Thursday's weekday Mass will be celebrated by Fr Robert Hannaford (from Workington) as Fr Philip is celebrating end-of-year Masses at St Benedict's High School and the Leaver's Mass for St Gregory & St Patrick's Infant School.
Congratulations to Monioluwa Florence Olumbunmi on her reception into the Catholic Church this weekend at Quay Street chapel. Moni is to receive the Sacrament of Baptism, Confirmation and her First Holy Communion. The whole Church rejoices in Moni's 'Yes' to God, her love for the Church, and her faithfulness to the voice of the Lord. Please keep her in your prayers, that all the graces received may find rich soil in her life.
Celebratory Day with Prayer and Mass: Next Saturday, Fr Ajish and Sisters from Preston, the parish will be hosting a celebratory day with prayer and Mass, catechesis and fellowship, for the Keralan community of West Cumbria. Many of the Keralan families belong to what is called the Syro-Malabar Rite, an ancient rite in full communion with the Roman Catholic Church. The Syro-Malabar Rite has roots in the mission of St Thomas the Apostle's mission to India.
Altar Servers Practice after next Sunday's Mass (11-11.30am), especially for those children and young people who would like to begin to learn how to serve at the altar.
Parish Open Meeting on Thursday 23 July at 6.30pm, an invitation to the whole parish to come together, to meet Fr Philip and to reflect upon the life of the parish as it is, and to explore hopes and dreams as we move towards the future, and to enjoy refreshments together. The more people the merrier, old and young, people who have lived here all their life, and people who have lived here for less time than Fr Philip, people from West Cumbria and people from far distant lands. Everyone is welcome as we seek to become more fully the Body of Christ, each with a part to play.
