St Begh’s church is open all day every day for quiet prayer.

Congratulations to Fr Philip who has been appointed by the Bishop to the Chapter of Canons. He will be installed at the Cathedral in September, and will play a part in the Bishop's College of Consultors, a governance role in the life of the Diocese. Besides parish duties, Fr Philip is also the Episcopal Vicar for Clergy, with special responsibility for the younger clergy, overseas clergy, ongoing formation of clergy and the sick and retired clergy. For these reasons, there are times when the weekday routine of Masses may be interrupted, but any changes will be published in the newsletter each week.

Looking forward: The Diocese and Belmont Abbey are working together to transfer the parish into the hands of the Diocese. This is a process which will take a few months. Once all the reports are written up, they will be presented to the Council of Priests and to the Trustees of the Diocese of Lancaster, who will make a final decision with the Bishop. In the meantime, Fr Philip is settling in, visiting the schools and beginning to get to know people, and visiting some of the housebound. If there are any parishioners who are housebound or sick and who are not receiving Holy Communion, please get in touch with the parish office so that arrangements can be made for visits. Fr Philip will be meeting with the parish's Property Management & Finance Group soon who will play a role in facilitating the transition of the parish to the Diocese. Fr Philip is also hoping to organise an open parish meeting before the Summer to celebrate all the good things going on at St Begh's and to begin to dream together how things might develop in the future.

Please pray for Chris Sumner who will be ordained to the Diaconate in the Basilica of St Paul's outside the Walls in Rome this coming Wednesday. Chris is from Lytham and used to be a teacher at Newman School Carlisle.
