Parish Priest - Rev Dom Matthew Carney, O.S.B.

Fr. Matthew was educated in Manchester and Swansea and entered the monastery at Belmont Abbey in 1987.  He served in a number of positions before being appointed Parish Priest of St. Begh's in March 2005. He also served a 3rd Curate in the Parish from 1994-1997. He is a devoted follower of the greatest football team in the world, Everton."

David and Stephen were ordained to the Permanent Deaconate on Saturday 11th July 2010 and undertake various ministries in the Parish and Deanery. David is Lay Chaplain to St. Benedicts R.C. Secondary School and co-odinates a inter-parish confirmation preparation course. Stephen is part of the Hospital Chaplaincy team and member of the Knights of St. Columba and Chairs the Parish Council.

FAMILY SEARCH ENQUIRIES

St. Begh's holds baptism records dating back to 1764 (these are only indexed from 1841, although searches can be made on your behalf).

Marriage records are from 1841. There are some prior to this from 1818, however not all marriages were recorded prior to 1841. There are death records dating back to 1764.

Mrs. Maud Smith, the Parish Secretary, deals with all such enquiries, and is available during weekdays between 9.30 am. and 12.30 pm. Requests for information can also be e-mailed using the facility on this web-site.

If no information is found regarding your ancestors, there is no charge.  A donation is requested to cover administration costs if ancestors are contained in our records.  For more intensive searching of our records, charges will be made accordingly.
